I make no excuses for updating this account of bizarre goings-on amid the SAM35 community known as “The Crazy Rubber Band”. I built my first Bob Bienenstein 1947 “Challenger” inspired by his success in the U.S. Championships of the same year. Was it Sal Taibi who declared “There ain’t no substitoot for altitood”? If you can get a model airplane away in good air there is a good chance it will fly away, perhaps forever. And so it was with my “Challenger”. This then, is the story of how Bienenstein's masterpiece of aerodynamic perfection drowned in a sea of uncertainty.
